John Cardiel, embodies the true nature of skateboarding. Unfortunatly hit by a car while just standing on the side of the road. Still alive and full of joy but unable to thrash like he used to. The vids will never go out of date.

To the moon.

Get ready for blast off

My good friend Tom Thrasher and I visited Disneyland for about and hour the other night. We had our sights set on one thing that night. Conquering SpaceMountain. The ride had about a 45 minute wait. No problem. The wait was worth it. Every part of this ride from what I remember from my first and only experience at age 7 was mind blowing. The line wasnt too bad, 45 minuets felt more like 30 mins. Next we were hearded like cattle into our tiny space ships. Locked in and ready to go, we blasted off into space. Its pitch black with constant projections of stars and lazers as a roller coaster zips though g-force tight turns. The next few moments were fantastic! My mind and body actually disconected for a moment. Way better than I remember as a kid. Was this still the same SpaceMountain or this is an all new ride and motion graphic experience. We got our picture taken right as the final dip back to earth takes place. Thank you Mr. Disney.

Manhattan is such a condensed city with miles of smooth concrete and plenty of architecture is to be used proper. While my brother and I only thrashed a couple of skate parks, if we had endless time during the weekdays and late nights NYSKATESPOTS.COM would have come in super handy. Its great for finding the obvious like the Brooklyn Banks and the Manhattan Bridge skate park. Also the obsucure are listed too like a 5 set stair with a waxed ledge on 23rd and 1st ave.  Though its still in in its infancy, it’s a great start to a fantastic resource. Big ups to thier efforts in cataloging an infinate “eye of the beholder” canvase of skate spots in Manhattan.

I’m at Washington Square Park near Greenwich Village and NYU. They’re filming a movie. It was a huge production with people running and jumping at the camera. I asked one of the production assistants what they were filming. He chuckled, “Step Up 3D” I asked, “the dance movie?” he confirmed with a smile and a nod.

I asked, “Do they use two cameras to capture the image from two different angles?” He confirmed and pointed at the camera rig, saying there was two cameras mounted vertically atop one another.

This makes me wonder…

Is this the future of movies? Will we always be required to wear “special” 3D glasses for all our future movies? I remember Jaws 3D back in the day had about 2 very weak shots of a shark swiming towards the audience. Also the newest Superman had some scenes which required the viewer to put on and then take off the glasses. Kind of annoying. Though animated films like “Up” and “Coraline” are all 3D, which sound like a much better experience. Either way it was neat to see this one being filmed.
